The Westin is an industry-leading hotel chain with programs and amenities focused on health and well-being. Guests of The Westin can stay well eating, sleeping, moving, feeling, working, and playing well whiled on the road.
The Westin Ottawa, a four-star-hotel in Ottawa’s downtown core, has pledged to plant one tree for each guest that foregoes laundry services during their stay.
The Westin Ottawa hotel became a Forest Recovery Canada partner in 2015 by combining energy conservation and support for forest restoration. The hotel has pledged to plant a tree for each guest that foregoes laundry services. Now, both The Westin Ottawa and Toronto Harbour Castle locations are planting trees on behalf of customers.
“We decided to partner with Forest Recovery Canada and give our guests the option of planting a tree,” says Brian O’Flaherty, Director of Guest Services.
Each month, the hotels provide a tally of the number of guests who opted out of housekeeping services and pledges support to Forest Recovery Canada for the equivalent number of trees to be planted. To date, the program has planted more than 5,000 trees (8 acres). These trees offer carbon sequestration capacity of 20.8 tons/year.
